We are happy to showcase one of our very special members here on the blog- Susan Hirsh is one of the savviest and kindest people in the industry. We spent a few minutes chatting with Susan about the IFDA NY chapter, the industry and her thoughts on all of it...
What is your area of expertise and why are you great at it? I am an expert in window treatments and wallcovering. I was the Vice President for Decorative Projects at Janovic. They had 28 stores in New York City and Long Island. I designed the displays, hired the staff and created and did the training. After Janovic was purchased by Benjamin Moore, I was the Manager for Decorative Products for more than 100 company-owned stores.
What inspires you day in and day out? I am inspired by the talented and creative people in our field. They create beautiful interiors for their clients.
Why did you join IFDA? I joined to meet leaders in our industry. I was President of the New York Chapter and International President.
What do you think is great about it? You meet people in our industry across the country and in Japan. Through the seminars and events, you are exposed to trends and color forecasts. I am now the IFDA Educational Foundation Chair and interact with students and educators and raise money for the Educational Foundation through cultural events.
How would you describe it to others in four words?
Professional, educational, informative, interactive.
Why do you think someone should join? Joining IFDA allows you to meet and interact with professionals in the industry. It expands your product knowledge. lFDA provides information about trends and products while you are meeting and hearing from experts in our field.
